Oud and qanun players for Ramadan in Dubai play soft, live Arabic music after iftar, typically from around 8:30pm, at a lower volume out of respect for the fasting month. You can book a solo oud, a solo qanun, an oud and qanun duo or a small takht for an iftar, a suhoor, a hotel Ramadan tent, a restaurant, a corporate Ramadan evening or a family gathering in a majlis. Ramadan and Eid are the busiest season of the year for these musicians in the UAE, so book at least 2 to 4 weeks ahead.
Price: oud and qanun players start from AED 2,000. The final price depends on the season, availability and how you customise the performance. See oud and qanun prices in Dubai.
Ramadan 2027 dates
Ramadan 2027 is expected to begin around 8 February 2027, with Eid al Fitr about 30 days later. The exact dates follow the moon sighting. Hotels, companies and families start booking from December, and the first and last weekends of Ramadan fill fastest. If you already know your dates, send them now and change them later if the calendar moves.
Why the oud and the qanun suit Ramadan
The oud is one of the most loved instruments in Middle Eastern culture. Its deep, warm tone fits the calm, reflective mood of the evenings after the fast. The qanun, the plucked zither with a bright, rippling sound, carries the classical maqam melodies many guests know from home. Together they give a full traditional sound without drums or amplification, so families and colleagues can talk, eat and rest while the room still feels special.
Ramadan events we book for
- Iftar gatherings. Soft music to welcome guests once the fast is broken and dinner is served.
- Suhoor evenings. Late night music in a relaxed, soulful mood, often running past midnight.
- Corporate iftars. Background music for client and staff evenings, from a small boardroom iftar to a large hotel tent.
- Hotels and restaurants. Live music for Ramadan tents and special Ramadan menus, often booked for several nights or the whole month.
- Private gatherings. Family evenings at home or in a majlis.
- Eid celebrations. Lunches and evening receptions after Ramadan ends.
Line-ups for Ramadan
Solo oud. The simplest choice for a family iftar or a small majlis.
Solo qanun. A bright, elegant sound for a tent entrance or a lounge. See qanun player in Dubai.
Oud and qanun duo. The most requested Ramadan line-up for hotels and company evenings. See the oud and qanun duo.
Oud, qanun and nay. Add the reed flute for texture, or book a full takht ensemble for a large tent.
Oud and singer. Classical Arabic and Khaleeji songs by request. Send your list a week ahead.
Timing on the night
Music starts only after the call to Maghrib prayer and the iftar meal, so most sets begin around 8:30pm to 9pm. Agree the start time and the load-in time with your venue in advance. Venues may restrict amplified music until iftar service is underway, and volume caps near mosques are stricter. A solo instrument or a duo works acoustically in most tents and majlis rooms, which keeps the volume low. For a suhoor, music usually runs later and in longer, gentler sets.
Repertoire for the fasting month
Musicians choose calm pieces in the classical maqams, well known Arabic and Khaleeji melodies, and slower instrumental versions of songs your guests love. Upbeat party songs are usually left for Eid. If you have favourite pieces, send them with your booking so the musicians can prepare.
